MOBILE SAFETY TIPS By Safe Surfing- Rakshit Tandon

  • 1. Keep your phone with you at all times. If you are worried about someone taking it at school or if you are out, leave it at home.
  • 2. Only give your mobile number to your friends and people that you trust.
  • 3. Don't lend your phone to someone you don't know or trust, or put it in a place where other people could get hold of it.
  • 4. Most phones allow you to lock your phone with a PIN code. If you don't have the code you can't unlock it, so if anyone steals your phone they won't be able to use it.
  • 5. If someone is pressuring you into giving them your number, tell someone about it such as a teacher or a parent.
  • 6. If you have Bluetooth on your phone, keep this switched off when you are not using it.
  • 7. Keep your WIFI Off- on a smartphone and also don’t connect to PUBLIC WIFI-HOTSPOT in public places.
  • 8. If using Smart phones like Android,Blackberry,Apple IPHONEs…keep GPS Disabled with Social Networking Sites and in Camera Settings GEO TAGGING DISABLED as it has a threat of sharing your location to public.
  • 9. Don’t Download unauthenticated applications from market.
  • 10. Don’t reply or call back on unidentified numbers specially 4,7,11,13 digits numbers either coming as missed call.
  • 11. Don’t reply to SMS with luring or tempting offers of Prize Winning or award winning.
  • 12. Every phone has a SECURITY WIPE Feature ( Restore Factory Defaults Settings) use this before selling your handset or exchanging your handset with anybody. This will prevent data theft from your device.
  • 13. Whenever give your handset for repair or maintenance always remove memory card, sim card , battery and then give. Transfer all your personal information from phone memory to memory card before giving it.
  • 14. Kids should always give parents number in public places , don’t share your personal number.
  • 15.  Don’t store personal pictures in your mobile phones as if stolen or dropped can be very vulnerable.
  • 16. Don’t store your passwords for any internet application like facebook,email etc on your mobile phone.
  • 17. If using Social Media like Facebook,twitter from mobile remember to disable location facility from your privacy and security settings.
  • 18. Don’t Click on any email or sms with a goofy link eg. Get a mobile free recharge etc.. or verify your account as it has been hacked … they are spoofs messages and can install a spyware on your phone which can steal all your information.
  • 19. Only use Genuine Authorised Service Centre for repair and also for purchase always buy from genuine vendors with bill.
  • 20. Don’t start using a Handset /SIM CARD or MEMORY CARD found lying at anyplace as a responsible citizen give it to the Police Station.
